LIKE SOMEONE IN LOVE - Film review

Like Someone in Love is a 2012 Japanese movie written and directed by Abbas Kiorastami. The film portrays the development of an extraordinary relationship between two people having years of generation gap. The cast includes Rin Takanashi, Tadashi Okino and Ryo Kase.

Akiko (Rin Takanashi) is a student who works as a high class call girl to pay for her studies. The film opens with Akiko at the bar and was shouting with her boy friend Noriaki (Ryo Kase) through phone. She informs him that her grandmother is in town. At that night there is a client waiting for her. She is surprised to find the shy and elderly Takashi (Tadashi Okino) her client. Takashi was constantly distracted by work related phone calls. He was interested in her company rather than sex. Even though she prompted him by stripping of her clothes and gets into his bed. But he refused and she falls asleep.

Next day Takashi drops Akiko in college and finds Noriaki. Noriaki get into his car assuming that he is her grandfather. After sometimes Akiko returns to the car and the three went to the service station where Noriaki works. Akiko was shivering inside the car. At the service station a man recognises Takoshi. The man had attended his classes. Akiko become nervous that the violent Noriaki will soon realise the real story.

Akiko get a relief when she and Takashi come alone. Even though Takashi knows all about her like a grandfather. And she also thinks that he is her protector. After sometime with crying Akiko calls Takashi. He takes her to the house and found that someone injured her. Takashi rush for medicines. After sometime he returns and asks what happened. She was still crying and don’t answer. But soon Noriaki arrives there and began to shout and tries to open the door. The director doesn’t show a visual of Noriaki during these final scenes. But the thing was quite understood for everyone that Noriaki has realized everything and he had slapped her. And there is now only one to save her from the monster i.e.  Takashi.
