The Repentant is a 2012 Algerian Film written and directed by veteran Director Merzak Allouche. After the eight years civil war which ended in 1999 the Algerian government offered an amnesty to the jihadist rebels. Casting Nabil Asni, Khaled Benaisse, Adila Bendimerad. The Repentant portrays the life of a repentant who tried to lead a normal life and how the society reacts towards to it.

Inspired by the amnesty young jihadist Rashid (Nabil Asli) leaves the snowy mountains running, gasping until he reaches his village and meet his old parents. But Rashid was threatened by a neighbour whose family was killed by terrorist. Rashid claims that he never killed anyone.

Rashid flew to the city and was helped by Redouane, a police captain who gets him a job in a cafe in return of the information. One day Rashid meets a local pharmacist, Lakhdar (Khaled Benaisse). Then is the twist of the film that the secrets which Rashid left behind in the mountains began to roll down. Rashid calls Lakhdar many times. Lakhdar and his wife, Djamila (Adile Bendimerad) were not living together. Djamila’s performance throughout the film was excellent. Her performance always raises pressure during each plot. Mean while Rashid kills his neighbour for self-defence.

Then the secret story unravelled. Lakhdars daughter was kidnapped and killed by terrorist in front of Rashid. In return of money he agreed to show Lakhdar the burial site of his daughter. At last scene Lakhdar, Djamila and Rashid drive to the mountains and found the site. The film ends with the fact that violence and gunshots are still active in the mountains.
