MY FIRST IFFK EXPERIENCE - 2012-13

Before joining this institution i was not well aware of world films. Even i watched commercial films just as an entertainment. I know that film is a directors creativity yet i don't give much attention to them. But journalism course had changed my perceptions a lot. So I decided to participate in the 17th IFFK. It is my first IFFK experience  I can't forget this fest since it brings me a lot of losses and much more gains. Here i am going to tell you about my experience which occurred during Dec 7 to 14.

My friends who had earlier experiences had told me about the ambiance of IFFK. I collect my delegate pass and other accessories before a week and waited for the mega event. But the first hurricane strikes. My mother was hospitalised for a major operation on Dec 5 and the operation date was fixed on Dec 6. So when the fest starts i was in the hospital looking after my mother. But i decided to participate in the inauguration which is going to be held at Nishagandi Auditorium. Since i have a bike travelling was not a problem. A huge crowd was waiting there and i got a place only at the back. After watching the film The Ring I and my friend Arif exit the place. When returns near the place where i kept my bike the second hurricane strikes, someone had stolen my bike. With a broken heart i gave a complaint to the near Museum Police station.

From the second day of fest i came to face the difficulty of travelling. I struggled to travel from hospital to various destinations. So that day i only watched a film After the battle, my first film of IFFK. From the third day on wards i decided to watch more films. Since all my friends attend the films earlier i watched the films alone. Now i began to show the power of my delegate pass, when i was in hospital i wear that and i noticed that everyone was watching on that. And from the third day onward i began to feel the ambiance of IFFK. Kairali theater was the soul of IFFK.  I came across vivid people many of them having long hairs. Various activity from music to fight occurred there. Some drunken were shouting there. A man was selling books. Instead of collecting money he was giving money to buyers who had purchased it. These creates a lot of laughter in my mind.  Days passed i got a company, Noufal (classmate) and a girl from print batch. We three formed a group. Like butterflies we fly from theaters to theaters. Some of my classmates felt pain when i was wandering with my newly formed IFFK group.

Many more variety figures twinkles at the soul of IFFK. We sat on the floor and watched the film Filmistaan. The director of the film also sat on the floor and watched. I came to meet a lady named Rina. She is a free lance journalist. She was shouting at a drunken man who had thrown away her cigarette. It was during this incident I talked with her. Then so many times we talked each other.

Then arrived the final day of IFFK. We three didn't watched any films, instead sit at Kairali and talked about the previous days. The mega fest is going to end. That creates a sorrow in our minds. Back to Nishagandi again this time for the closing ceremony. Now i don't have any thing to lost. But when i think, closing is the loss now. To be 17th fest I can only watch 17 films. After saying goodbye to all, i threw away the stick given by the authorities for making noise. Since i wish to keep it, it was already in a poor condition showcasing how much i enjoyed my first IFFK in the midst of big loses.
